Discovering Penmon Lighthouse: A Coastal Gem in Anglesey
Help me pick the right shot pt2
Following from the success of my last blog, again, i’m reaching out to my special followers to help me plan my 2026 calendar. This is Trwyn Du (Penmon) Lighthouse, Ynys Mon (Anglesey). I think it will make a beautiful feature in my 2026 calendar, however, I have several versions, and i’m looking for your opinion.
First, a little information about Trwyn Du
Nestled on the southeastern tip of Anglesey, Trwyn Du Lighthouse, also known as Penmon Lighthouse, is a beacon of history and natural beauty. This iconic structure stands proudly between Black Point near Penmon and Puffin Island, marking the passage between the two.
A Glimpse into History
Built between 1835 and 1838, Penmon Lighthouse was designed by the renowned engineer James Walker. The construction cost a whopping £11,589 at the time, which would be over a million pounds today.
The lighthouse, with its distinctive white and black banded design, was initially manned by two keepers until it was automated in 1922.
The Scenic Beauty
The lighthouse offers stunning views of the Irish Sea and Puffin Island. The pebble beach is a peaceful spot, perfect for a leisurely stroll or a quiet moment of reflection, as we did here, on clear nights, the area is a haven for photographers:
Out one evening for this shoot.
